Namibia

Memories of the red sand seas from the Namib Desert – the oldest desert in the world – a unique journey to the tallest dunes in the world, Namibia is really home to some of Africa’s most stunning natural sights.

History mentions Solitaire may have originated from the word solitude as this town was very small and remote.

Home to ancient trees: Here at Dead Vlei, you’ll get to witness ancient, dead camel thorn trees (Acacia erioloba). These have been preserved for over 900 years and are believed to have died due to the shifting sands and climate changes.

A “sunset cocktail moment” in Namibia, known as a sundowner, is a cherished tradition where travelers and locals pause at golden hour to enjoy a drink (often gin & tonic or local beer) while watching the spectacular desert, marking the perfect end to a day of adventure with breathtaking colors painting the sky. And of course, Gin & Tonic (G&T) is the popular one (for me sure!), harking back to colonial days with quinine, but I could have chosen from local beers, wine, or even traditional drinks like Oshikundu (a fermented millet drink).
